Summary

I’ve done this talk many times at many separate conferences - It’s my go to talk when introducting cybersecurity since it is not only a flashy display of “hacking”, but also gives listeners a helpful roadmap to start their cyber journey. The goal of this talk is to spark an interest in students to go home and start learning linux!

This talk goes over what Linux is, why it’s favored by cybersecurity researchers, and how to get started learning it! I recommend two very good methods: a youtube video on setting up and installing kali linux and Bandit0 (a wargame built around learning the linux terminal).

I also like to include a demo of Ethernal Blue - a windows NFS exploit using metasploit. It’s simple to understand and looks flashy enough to catch the attention of university students and highschoolers alike.

I typically wrap this presenation up by doing a quick kahoot on the concepts covered in the presentation with a small prize for the top 3 students near the end.
